July 21st we will finally be able to witness this highly anticipated film! Until now, we were in the dark about the plot of the movie, but this new trailer helps fill in some boxes. Here are some key moments!
Flat Feet Are NOT Good
Barbie displays some perfectly arched feet while all is well in the world. However, when things start to go south she points out her new flat feet, which is not received well. It’s interesting that the Barbies’ are aware of their different anatomy and find normal peoples offputting.

Cold Shower With No Water
Barbie mentions her shower was cold, and even reacts to the temperature. However, there is no water coming from the faucet. If this is a nod to real-life Barbie toys and their need for imagination, we are obsessed with the attention to detail.

Heels vs Birkenstocks And Kate McKinnon
When Barbie is faced with the choice of entering the real world, each side was presented to her by shoes. A pink heel for Barbie Land, and a brown Birkenstock for the real world. There is so much to unpack in that one scene however, the shoe choice is hilarious and also an accurate representation of the mundane and functionality of humanity. That’s not shade either, I have several pairs! But in comparison to Barbie, it’s very blah. Also, Kate McKinnon. Enough said.

Young Girls Don’t Care For Barbie
For this one, we’ll have to wait and see the movie. However, the young girls’ negative reaction toward Barbie was very interesting. Is this a woke world that doesn’t like Barbie? Are they past a need for her as a society? Has she been replaced? Is this making a statement? I guess we’ll see.

Barbie Visits Mattel
Barbie is seen running out of what appears to be Mattel headquarters. Does she know that’s where she came from? Did Mattel make her and her friends then send them off to Barbie land in exile? Are they even connected at all?

Ken’s Sexism
The scene where Ken is looking for a doctor, but in actuality was looking for a male. The woman doctor was not valid for him. Did he develop this mindset after coming into the real world? Or has he always been like that?

Barbie Can Feel Emotions
Barbie is known for being happy-go-lucky at all times. To see her display sadness and even shed a tear is very telling. Did her cross over to the real world make her human? Or was the real world harsh enough to wear down a Barbie to the point of tears?

This Scene
What is happening? Are they at war? Is this a crossover? So many questions that I’m so excited to get answers for this July!
